An intervention often reveals another one: a defect spotted during an inspection, a prerequisite discovered along the way, a check that needs rescheduling. Linked tasks capture this connection between two tasks, so you know why the second one exists and can navigate from one to the other in one click.
Until now, this link could only be created by a checklist step answered with a thumbs down. You can now create a linked task from any task, without going through a checklist.
Creating a linked task from a task
- Open the task from which you want to create the follow-up intervention.
- Locate the Linked Tasks card in the task detail.
- Click the + button, then choose the Create a linked task option at the top right of the card.
- The task creation form opens in a new tab. The equipment from the original task is already carried over, and a message confirms the task will be automatically linked.
- Complete the task as usual, then save.
The link is created upon saving. The new task appears in the Linked Tasks card of the original task, and vice versa.
Linking an existing task
The + button also lets you link a task that already exists, in addition to creating a new one.
- Click the Link an existing task option
- Search for the task by its description or ID, first among tasks on the same equipment, then across the whole site if needed.
- You can link several tasks at once.
- Tasks generated by a maintenance plan are not offered in the results.
Reading the Linked Tasks card
Each row of the card shows a label:
- Created from this task: you are on the original task, this row is a follow-up task.
- Original task: you are on the follow-up task, this row is the task that triggered it.
- Created from the checklist: the link was created with the Create Task button of a checklist step.
The first five linked tasks are shown; Show all expands the rest. Clicking one opens the linked task in a new tab.
Creating a linked task from a checklist
The second entry point still exists: the Create Task button below a checklist step creates a task automatically linked to the current task. If your network has enabled the mandatory creation of a linked task, a mandatory validation step answered non-compliant (thumbs down) requires this creation before the checklist can be closed or the task completed. For details, see How to complete a checklist?
Unlinking two tasks
On the relevant row of the Linked Tasks card, use the Unlink task action, then confirm.
Only the link is removed: no task is deleted. Both interventions continue to exist independently.
Current limitations
- The link only has one nature — "created from this task" or "created from the checklist." There are no additional relationship types yet (blocks, is blocked by…).
- Neither the link's creation date nor its author are kept.
- Only the equipment is carried over into the creation form; the original task's labels, documents, and photos are not copied.
