The task completion maintenance plan allows you to automatically create a new task only when the previous one is completed. The date of the next intervention is calculated from the last activity performed or, if none exists, from the completion date of the previous task.
How It Works
When a task completion maintenance plan is configured:
- the date of the next task is calculated based on the date of the last activity on the task, if it exists; otherwise,
- the completion date of the previous task is used as a reference;
- the frequency is always respected between two actual interventions.
Unlike a fixed-date plan, there are never multiple open tasks simultaneously for the same plan.
Main Plan Parameters
A task completion maintenance plan relies on the following parameters:
- Frequency: interval between two interventions (e.g., every 3 weeks, monthly)
- Reference point: last activity or task completion date
These parameters allow scheduling to adapt to the actual pace of work.
Common Scenario Examples
Example 1
You have a maintenance plan with a three-week frequency.
- A task is completed on January 1st.
- The last activity was performed on January 1st.
The next task will be automatically scheduled three weeks after the date of the last activity.
If no activity was recorded, scheduling will occur three weeks after the completion date.
Example 2
You configure a maintenance plan with a monthly frequency.
- A task is completed on May 1st.
- The next task will automatically be scheduled for June 1st.
If the task is completed on the last day of the month, the next task will also be set for the last day of the following month.
This ensures consistency in monthly cycles.
Example 3
An instrument must be calibrated at regular intervals, and the validity of the calibration depends on the actual date of the intervention.
- The next maintenance date is calculated from the last calibration activity.
- Scheduling automatically adjusts if the intervention occurs earlier or later than expected.
This ensures compliance with validity periods without creating drift in the schedule.
Behavior of Generated Tasks
Tasks created by a task completion maintenance plan:
- are created one at a time, never in parallel;
- always depend on the actual completion of the previous task;
- automatically adjust their date based on field reality.
This ensures logical continuity between interventions and better control of maintenance cycles.
Key Points to Know
- As long as a task is not completed, no new task is created.
- Any modification of the completion date or last activity directly affects the next task’s date.
- Two tasks from the same plan cannot be completed on the same day.
- This type of plan does not allow scheduling tasks on fixed days (e.g., every Monday and Wednesday).
To schedule interventions on specific dates or days, see the dedicated article on the fixed-date maintenance plan in the help center.
